ABOUT OUR COMPANY

History of Floribbean Seafood

Floribbean Seafood was founded in 1987 in Margate, Florida, by Michael Black, father to our current CEO, Jonathan Black. Michael was an experienced and innovative longline fisherman, who began to segregate the best of the catch from each trip, marketing his fresh product to the finest dining establishments in the region.

Michael began selling seafood out of a box truck and built up a clientele because of his emphasis on providing quality fish to his customers. In 1993, he purchased the Floribbean facility and expanded his customer base throughout the United States. Through the help of dedicated employees, good business practices, and a commitment to doing what is right, Floribbean grew into what it is today.

The legacy of Floribbean was passed down from father to son, following Michael’s passing in 2021. Jonathan Black grew up amid his father’s entrepreneurial journey. From a young age, he had the privilege of observing firsthand how Michael excelled not only as a fisherman but also as a remarkable businessman and leader to his employees. Jonathan watched his father navigate the challenges and triumphs of running a successful seafood company and now carries with him the invaluable lessons imparted by Michael. The memories of watching his father foster strong relationships with employees and customers, while always maintaining respect, trust, and integrity, continue to guide Jonathan’s approach to business and leadership.

The story of Jonathan’s journey within Floribbean Seafood is deeply rooted in love, admiration, and a sense of familial pride. Through the guidance and inspiration of his father, he carries the torch, ensuring that the company remains a beacon of excellence, driven by the legacy of a great businessman, a compassionate boss, and an extraordinary father and grandfather.
